Synopsis:

A great movie no matter how you choose to analyze it.
While not meant to scare you to death, it'll give you quite a few chills down your spine.
The only flaw of the disk is Keanu Reeves. Come on!!! I can have a better English accent myself (and I'm an Israeli, plus, I'm not an actor). A bad choice in the casting, but that is it. Nothing else is wrong with the movie.
The editing is simply remarkable. One rarely sees so many interesting cuts and fades without them being annoying. This movie goes to show, that clever editing is something to be jealous of.
The transfer itself (1.85:1) is astonishing. The amount of details is incredible. Nothing is missing even in the dark scenes, and trust me - there are a lot of those in the movie.
The DD 5.1 audio is amazing. I had to lower the volume on my surround speakers, since they were used so often throughout the movie. I'm not saying they were over-used, but I did have to lower them in order to stay in touch with the dialog from the center speaker. The sound effects are simply great.
All the extra features are nice and extensive and they really add up to this excellent as it is movie.
I dare you to watch this one alone. At night.

There are a lot of vampire movies based on Bram Stoker's vison and his representation of Dracula but this version, that is directed by Francis Ford Coppola, is the best and the most fascinating one, I think.

The atmosphere, the climax is tremendous and the colors, the music is astonishing. Beyond all the violence (in fact that is very erotic), this movie is the best one that represents the idea of eternal love.

I know that most of the people watched this movie but I recommend you to buy the DVD edition because all the grain and reflective blackness are removed and sound is presented in dolby digital.

The short feature about costumes gives you the chance to compare the initial drawings and the costumes.

In the DVD, there is a beautiful featurette that contains behind-the-scenes and previews and some interviews.

Highly recommended!

One of the best looking DVD's in my collection. The transfer on this disc is one of the best there is and when this is matched with Francis Ford Coppola's visual masterpiece you have a bit of a looker.

Gary Oldman delivers a stunning performance as Dracula, giving his character a human like quality. While Anthony Hopkins is having a great time as Van Helsing.

The Extras include a good 30 min 'Making of' which gives a good insight into how Francis Ford Coppola makes his films. There is a section for the oscar winning costume designs, a trailer and cast and crew filmographies.

Well worth the money.

Out of all the many Dracula movies, this one is up there with the best and is probably the most realistic and true to life. With a good cast, Oldman outstanding as the count, Ryder
doing a good job as the love intrest, and Hopkins who seems to stroll through his parts and seems to enjoy himself. Alot has been said already about Reeves, i'll leave it at that.
The picture quality on this DVD is excellent and is perfect for
this film, making the most of the various colours, but a the same time not losing anything in the many darkened scenes.
The audio is also very good, plenty of haunting sounds which set the atmosphere, as well as the distant wolf cries that apear behind you, and a good music score which helps set the mood. The extras are good too, not loads of them but enough to complement the disc. There is a great making of which gives you a great insight to what goes on behind the scenes as well as the usual trailers, filmographies etc. Overall a fine DVD, a good film, great quality, and a few extras, certainly worthy of a place in your collection.
